This 20-acre research center and natural outdoor museum is a state historic site dedicated to the study, preservation, and interpretation of North Carolina's rich heritage, created to follow that of a family farm in the early 1900s.

Site features the Hauser farmhouse restored in period furnishings, a combination well and washhouse, smokehouse, log feed barn, tobacco curing barn, corncrib and visitor center.
