Since its founding in 1902 the N.C. Museum of History has been an exciting place to learn about the state's past and its people. Almost all of its exhibits and educational programs are free.
Popular permanent exhibits include the N.C. Sports Hall of Fame and "The Story of North Carolina." Special programs include craft demonstrations, concerts and children's summer camps. Outreach services include virtual field trips and sponsorship of the Tar Heel Junior Historian Association.
The museum is open Monday through Saturday from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. and
Sunday from noon-5 p.m. It has an auditorium and a gift shop that sells North Carolina craft items, books, CDs, toys, posters, etc.
It is part of the Division of State History Museums, within the N.C. Department of Cultural Resources (www.ncdcr.gov).
Events at all seven state history museums are listed at www.ncculture.com.
