The Mountain Gateway Museum & Heritage Center promotes the understanding of regional historyand culture, and of their relationship to the world at large. Through interpretive exhibits and public events (such as the Sunday afternoon bluegrass music jam sessions) and its services to historical organizations, the museum promotes the preservation and understanding of local, state and regional history for future generations. All activites, including tours and on-site picnicking, are free.
The museum is managed by the Division of State History Museums within the N.C. Department of Cultural Resources (www.ncdcr.gov). Events at the seven state history museums, as well as state historic sites, are listed at www.ncculture.com.
