North Carolina's Civil War governor, Zebulon B. Vance, was rugged and controversial. He had a dynamic political career that is explored at this pioneer farmstead where he was born, near Weaverville.
The reconstructed buildings and their period furnishings reflect the governor's influential mountain family, who lived here from 1795-1840. This Buncombe County facility is managed by the N.C. Division of State Historic Sites (www.nchistoric sites.org), within the N.C. Department of Cultural Resources (www.ncdcr.gov). Events at the Vance Birthplace and other state historic sites are listed at www.ncculture.com.
