The Museum of the Albemarle tells the story of the people who have lived in the Albemarle region -- from American Indians to the first English-speaking colonists, to farmers and fishermen.
Two building reconstruction projects that have become part of the ''Our Story'' exhibit are a 1755 Pasquotank County home and a smokehouse that early settlers in North Carolina made from native cypress. Transportation items, agricultural artifacts and other large objects from different eras in the state’s history are on view in the exhibit as well.
Admission and events are free at the museum, which is closed on Mondays. It is managed by the Division of State History Museums within the N.C. Department of Cultural Resources (www.ncdcr.gov).
